Kuala Lumpur-based producer Iwaz is notable for infusing traditional Malay music with ambient electronic soundscapes. Known for his ability to adapt to different genres, his own solo brand sees him departing into a new chapter where he now explores music driven by his emotional frustration. Working closely with an exclusive VJ collective Saishogen, Iwaz offers an audio-visual experience to accompany his computerless and hardware only live set up.
His journey as an electronic-driven artist started when he co-founded and became a member of the electronic band Menikmati. The experience of experimenting as a creative group shaped his producing skills and further awakened his musical curiosity into a whole new sonic territory. Under the band’s belt, they have performed in Bandung, Indonesia and made appearances across notable festivals in Malaysia such as Urbanscapes, Yayasan Sime Darby Arts Festival, JB Arts Festival, AOR Festival and Spectra Festival.
When they were mentioned as one of the Electronic Acts to Watch by JUICE Malaysia magazine (2014 September Issue), it brought attention to their works. This opened doors for them to work with other electronic musicians in Kuala Lumpur. They have remixed for the likes of Enterprise and +2dB. They also gave their support for the launch of Pastel Lite’s first EP “Et Cetera” in 2015.
After going through a devastating tech-breakdown resulting in the loss of his entire life’s work, Iwaz retreated into his personal studio and took time off from the spotlight for a short while. When the band went dormant, Iwaz continued on and began to produce tracks with other artists such as Alex Ungku, Leo Ari, Leaism, Takahara Suiko and Ismail of Enterprise. This gave him the confidence and drive to start writing and play live again.
The decision to leave Menikmati in 2018 was not easy, but inevitable. Whilst remaining good friends with his former bandmates, Iwaz continues to find his own niche. Iwaz recently released his debut album "SUSUR MASA" and it is now available for streaming and download on all digital platforms such as Spotify, iTunes, Tidal and many more.
Iwaz is currently available for live shows and bespoke performances. For bookings please contact:
